Samsung is improving their upcoming smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with major upgrades to enhance image quality and user experience. The biggest change from the Galaxy S23 is the performance, which was a success in terms of public reception and sales because of its excellent performance. The phone excels in CPU and GPU intensive tasks while maintaining great battery life.

Upgrade to Telephoto Lense

The Galaxy S24 Ultra was the first smartphone to have a Periscope Zoom Camera. It had 4x optical zoom which later improved to 5x optical on the Note 20 Ultra. However, users complained that they needed a short-range zoom, so Samsung is bringing a 3x optical telephoto camera on the S21 Ultra with a 10x optical periscope camera for long-range zoom.

Samsung will continue to use the same setup for the next 2 years. Now, the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra will have the biggest major upgrade over the past 3 years by upgrading its zoom camera. Samsung will upgrade the 3x telephoto lens with 5x telephoto zoom. This means the device will have two zoom cameras, one with 5x telephoto zoom and another with 10x telephoto zoom.

For lower zoom factors, such as 3x telephoto zoom, optical zoom cameras are always better than cropping within the main sensor. Continuing zoom with variable lenses could be a better option. The phone will stick with two telephoto lenses. No further details have been shared, but the device will gain huge power and efficiency. 5x optical zoom is coming, and we don’t know exactly what type of zoom sensor this is. It might actually be a continuous zoom that can go from 3x to 5x level, or it could be a standard 5x lens.

Samsung is said to be developing new technology which is ISOCELL Zoom and ISOCELL Zoom Pro. These will use a 200MP main camera sensor for those lower zoom factors. The 3x lens is being replaced with something better.

One of the coolest camera features is portrait mode. It makes your device subject pop and gives pictures a dramatic look. This popular effect replicates photos taken on mirrorless or DSLR cameras with long lenses and shallow depth of field. We have the 2x portrait mode on iPhone 14 Pro Max and even Pixel 7 Pro, but for some reason, Samsung didn’t enable it on Galaxy S23 Ultra. The 2x zoom will add this feature to Galaxy S24 and will add a 2x zoom mode to its camera app on Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Performance Upgrade

The Galaxy S23 had a great performance upgrade. Some people thought the Galaxy S24 Ultra wouldn’t have the same upgrade, but that’s not true. ARM, a company that creates architecture, revealed its latest CPU and GPU cores. Companies like Qualcomm and Samsung will use this architecture on the Galaxy 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400. These chipsets will power the Galaxy S24 Lineup.

ARM claims that its Cortex X4 CPU cores, which handle heavy single-threaded tasks, will use 40% less power. This means the Galaxy S24 series will be more power-efficient when performing high-end tasks like camera, gaming, and multitasking. The other two cores, responsible for daily tasks like web browsing and social media apps, will be 22% more efficient than their predecessor.

The Cortex X4 is 15 times faster than the X3 Core while using 40% less power. This is officially the fastest ARM CPU ever built. The Cortex A720 is said to be 20% more efficient, and the Cortex A520 Cores are said to be 22% more efficient.

On the performance front, ARM claims a 27% jump in multi-threaded tasks. Notably, the Cortex X4 Core can go as high as 3.4GHz and has 2MB L2 Cache, which is 2x as compared to last year. ARM is focusing on making their new CPUs more efficient. This means the device will have better battery life than the S23 Ultra. Graphics on the 8 Gen 3 will be 50% better.

Qualcomm will be announcing their next-generation 8 Gen 3 on October 24 of this year, a few weeks earlier compared to their previous announcements. Qualcomm has big plans, which are completely in line with leaks.

Samsung will update their phones with the custom Skin OneUI 6 based on Android 14 starting later this year. If you’re wondering whether your smartphone will be compatible or not, here are the eligible Samsung devices that will receive the Android 14 One UI 6.0 update.
