There are plenty of privacy and software improvements in Android 14. Now with Android 14 there will be a new feature called Google Play data safety section which will tell the users what purpose the location is being used for by the app.

Android 14 will now bring this upfront. As of now you can only know what permissions have been granted to an app but not what permissions the app is using them for. Now users will be able to see what data is being shared with the data sharing update.

This will bring more transparency, and this has actually been useful in knowing what permission is granted and for what it is used. Google says this: Google Play Data Safety provides users information in a simplified way on how an app collects, shares, and secures users’ data. This was first announced in Google I/O 2021 and this came into limelight again in the recent Play Console for Developers.

All the apps after August 2022 have to complete the data safety form which means now every developer needs to share about every feature they have been using with their app and what data they collect.

This data safety form includes the disclosure of the data type along with the purpose of using it. Users can check this for various apps that appear under the new option menu called Data privacy under Location Permission. So now when you grant a location permission you have an option to know what this location is meant to be used for along with an option to choose Precise or Approximate.

To check the Data Sharing update, you can navigate to the Device Settings and from there go to Security & Privacy. There you will have a Privacy option that lets you review apps that changed the way they shared the location data. From there you can see when the changes have been made and it will keep a history of about past 30 days.
