Samsung has started rolling out the October Security Patch to the Galaxy S23 Plus (SM-S916B), including the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Plus. The company has already been testing the Android 14-based One UI 6 for a while now, which has already reached the 8th stage. It is expected to go live within the next few months and comes with stability improvements, feature enhancements, and bug fixes to provide a better and error-free experience.

However, the Beta update doesn’t include any new features or changes, but users may notice, after installing the update, that several stock apps have been updated to the latest version, bringing new features and improvements. The update also brings the October 2023 Security Patch to enhance the system security.

What’s new with the Samsung October 2023 Security Update

Samsung has addressed a few vulnerabilities that were discovered in the previous firmware. However, it doesn’t contain any major changes other than backend fixes. The October Security Update SMR (Security Maintenance Release) has a total of 12 Samsung vulnerabilities and exposures (SVE) listed, including 2 critical vulnerabilities, 32 high-level CVEs, and a couple dozen high-risk vulnerabilities. Additionally, there are Android vulnerabilities to improve system security and stability.

While there are other concerns regarding Android OS issues, which have been patched by Google or the vendor of an affected system component, at least two vulnerabilities patched this month are confirmed to be critical flaws.

The company has addressed necessary concerns, including one major issue where a malicious actor could install a different version of an app on a device or initiate code without needing permission, enable and connect to Wi-Fi networks without the user’s permission, execute code remotely, and obtain the CPU serial number by bypassing required permission.
