Everyone is talking about the newly introduced Apple Standby Mode, announced during WWDC. But did you know it has been available on Samsung devices for a while? If you don’t know about this, it appears on the always-on display but in landscape mode. It is pretty similar to Google Home widgets and information. Additionally, landscape mode doesn’t consume much battery.
Both Samsung and iPhone have a feature that displays information like the time, widgets, photos, notifications, icons, media player, and more on the screen. This is when the device is charging and in landscape mode. These are visually pleasing and showcase a variety of infographics. What makes it more interesting is that it has interaction, which further reveals more widgets in an attractive arrangement.
Always-on Display is a Good Way to Save Battery Life
IPhone’s Standby Mode and Samsung’s Always-On Display are effective ways to save battery. They take advantage of the OLED display’s ability to turn off individual pixels. This means that during AOD, most pixels are disabled on the screen, showing simple text to preserve battery life.
How to Enable Samsung’s Standby
Samsung calls this AOD in the landscape. It’s easy to enable AOD’s landscape version. Check out the following instructions:
- Open Device Settings and Find and Tap on the Lock Screen.
- After that, click on Always-On-Display, tap on Screen Orientation, and select landscape.
- From there, toggle to enable “always on display” in the landscape.
- To customize the Always On Display, tap the More option and select the setting based on your preference.
After enabling the AOD in Landscape, you will have information on the AOD in, including time, date, notification, and other information. It’s not identical to iPhone Standby; it can customize widgets and settings.
Apple has done better by joining with the same idea, creating the iOS 17 Standby feature. This allows users to interact with their phones more meaningfully. Starting with saying that iOS 17 Standby is more visually appealing than Samsung’s Original Idea, users can also interact with their iPhone using Siri. In the fall, Apple will release iOS 17 for eligible iPhones later this year.
