Nothing has finally started rolling out its Android 13-based custom skin, NothingOS Build 1.5.2, through an OTA update. It brings a new weather app, a Glyph Sound pack, and more. Users from India, UK, Ukraine, and the US have started receiving the update, which has a weight of 157MB.

Nothing Phone 1 Received Stable Android 13 based Nothing OS 1.5.2

This update has more than 12 new ringtones and alerts perfectly synchronized with the Glyph lighting. Apart from this, a new weather app is connected with the existing home screen widgets using AccuWeather forecasts to provide information.

You will also find a “Nothing X” app, which controls other Nothing products like Ear 1 and Ear Stick or upcoming products. Within Quick Settings, a new menu appears when you tap on the Bluetooth tile, as well as the new QR Code Scanner.

With Android 13, you can now enjoy the Material You theme. This update brings a themed-based home screen icon, improved privacy settings, and granular media permission, including the photo picker for better privacy. It even has a revamped volume menu with live caption support. The company has also significantly upgraded the battery life with this update.

Some new customizable shortcuts appear on the bottom corner of the lock screen. There are plenty of new things under the hood, for which you can read the patch notes for more in-depth details about the latest update on Nothing Newsroom here.

The company hired hundreds of full-time employees from five engineers working on NothingOS. We all know that the company was late with the Android update, and they started the beta program later compared to other companies rolling out the update.

That being said, this update will make your device 50% faster. There are a lot of users who have received the update on Reddit and Discord. However, many people have been left out as the company is prioritising the users who have participated in the Open Beta. But those who were left out can download the OTA update package and sideload it on their device.

Before downloading and sideloading the package, users can check for OTA updates by navigating to the device settings > System. From there, users can check for the latest update. If there is an update available, users can download it.

It is pretty easy to install the update using the Local OTA Update. Make sure you have at least 5GB of free storage available on your device before you install the package. Keep an OTA package on your device’s internal storage under the OTA folder.

To install the update:

  1. Open the device dialer and enter ##682##
  2. It will open a Local OTA Updater. Simply browse the file from your device.
  3. Once you scan the OTA package, you can simply head over to install the update, which will require a reboot.

Note: If it doesn’t work, use the Activity launcher or QuickShortcut maker to sideload the OTA package to upgrade your device.

It is important to note that there are no commitments for three years of Android upgrades and four years of bi-monthly security patch updates for the phone (1).
