After the launch of 5G in India by Jio and Airtel, the Government of India asks OEMs to push a software update to enable 5G support. With unlocking for supported bands, a more reliable network can be achieved across the country.

Apple and Samsung confirmed the software update for both Jio Ture 5G and Airtel 5G Plus support. Motorola also confirmed the update to support 5G support for its 5G-equipped device and shared the timeline.

The company will first roll out the update for its flagship smartphone, which includes the Motorola Edge 5G Ultra and Edge 30 Fusion. This seems way ahead of Apple and Samsung updates, Who are going to start rolling out the update in December; Motorola is also going to update other Edge and G-Series smartphones.

Prashanth Mani, Executive Director, Motorola Asia Pacific, in a statement to Beebom, said, “Motorola 5G smartphones in India, across categories, have hardware support for 11 to 13 5G bands including all 8 Sub 6 GHz 5G bands that have been announced in India. We have already started the roll-out of OTA software updates for enabling 5G across both SA (Reliance Jio) and NSA (Airtel & Vi) 5G modes simultaneously on Motorola devices, enabling consumers to experience seamless 5G across operators.

It is not clear if Google, Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, and other manufacturers will release their 5G software update. But Most of them likely to start and will end the rollout by the end of this year. Since India is the key market for Motorola and they have few smartphones available, it is crucial that they offer both phenomenal 4G and 5G devices across the segment.
