Apple is a very successful company, but there are still some things that need to be fixed. One of those things is the Mailing app on Mac, which doesn’t seem to work very well. Even though people have reported the problem to Apple, they haven’t done anything about it yet.

A former Apple Engineer named Neil Jhaveri decided to work on the Mailing app himself. He tried different ideas to make it better, and one of the best ideas he came up with is called Mimestream. It’s a combination of MacOS and Gmail Client, and it has some really advanced features. The announcement for Mimestream was just recently released.

Mimestream 1.0 for MacOS, launched after Microsoft’s Web-based Outlook

Recently, Microsoft updated their web version of the email service Outlook. Their CEO, Neil Jhaveri, announced the release of their Mimestream service, which had been in testing for two years and was tried by 167,000 people. During those two years, developers made over 2,500 improvements, 220 updates, and 100+ fixes. All of their hard work paid off because the official version is now available for download.

Neil Jhaveri used to work for Apple as an engineer for over 7 years and helped improve their mailing app. In 2017, he left Apple to work on improving MacOS’s email experience with Mimestream. The app incorporates helpful Gmail features, but it took two years of testing to get here. Now that the testing is over, let’s take a look at some of Mimestream’s features.

Manage Multiple Accounts

The default Apple Mail app does not offer a useful feature such as managing multiple accounts. This feature works better when you manage emails for different clients. Managing multiple accounts can be messy, but with the new Mimestream, there is an alternative. Get Mimestream and handle 50+ accounts in one mail app.

Custom Notification Schedule & Account Colors

With this feature, you can set up a mail notification for your tips. You can schedule custom notifications for every email. Additionally, you have a focus mode that lets you decide which profiles are more important to you even when you are in focus mode. Here you can assign a particular color to a dedicated mailing account to better understand what is going on.

Vacation Responder & Filters

When you are ready to disconnect from work, such as when going on vacation, you don’t want to reply to every client. In that case, this vacation responder will help you. When you are on vacation, if someone sends you an email, it will automatically respond with a message that you wrote in settings. The best part is that it also works offline. Additionally, you have a filter option to filter emails according to your preference.

Label Drafts with Google Contact Colors

Mimestream labels a particular draft to focus on it. Apart from that, Mimestream displays a Google Contacts profile photo when you email someone, but only if you have enabled it to sync with your contacts. If someone has no profile photo, it will display your name monogram as assigned by Google itself.

class="wp-block-heading">Improved Templates and Variables

Mimestream has predefined template variables so that you can focus on particular accounts and their contents. To quickly check unread messages, the Mimestream app has a dedicated feature called the Menu bar extra. It lets you see the messages directly on your screen without struggling to search for that particular account.

Decode Winmail.dat Attachments

There might be some limited mailing services that offer the ability to decode Winmail.dat attachments. But with Mimestream, it is now possible to decode that content. There is, however, a requirement that the recipient also enable these settings so that the user gets complete compatibility with multiple types of content.

Conversation View Message Selection

The problem with many mailing services was that you were unable to participate easily between email threads. However, Mimestream already has a few options to reply directly. But with conversation view selection, you can participate even in long threads within the Mimestream app itself. Meanwhile, this is also a new way to get connected with Mimestream.

Advanced Tracking Functionality

In mailing services, we have the option of switching between labels, inbox categories, server-side filters, calendar invitation responses, snooze, and Gmail search. You can triage between numerous functionalities within the Mimestream app itself. Initially, this feature was not part of Mimestream, but it is now a part of 100+ new features added during the testing phase.

Aside from that, the Mimestream has few minor features such as Gmail aliases support, markdown substitution, and advanced key shortcuts. We should point out that Mimestream is a paid service starting at $4.99/month (excluding taxes) and $49.99/year. There is, however, a free trial period of 14 days. But I think if you look you present scenario you will get the yearly for just $29.99/year, offer valid till 9th June 2023.

To be concluded, Mimestream’s Beta is going to end on 26th May 2023. Afterwards the Mimestream 1.0 will start running with full potential on your Mac.
