Samsung may add expert RAW support to their Galaxy Watch Camera Controller app. This app lets users turn their smartwatch into a remote control and shutter button for their smartphone camera. This would allow users to take professional-quality photos using their smartphones, which is a significant improvement for those who want to take high-quality photos without carrying their smartphones around.
The Camera Controller app has improved several times, including zoom controls in January. If you need to be made aware, Samsung’s Camera Controller app lets users turn their smartwatch into a remote controller and shutter button for their smartphone camera. However, it doesn’t offer the full features of a smartphone viewfinder.
Samsung to Add Manual Controls to the RAW Camera App for Galaxy Watches
Samsung will be adding manual controls to its Expert RAW Camera app on the Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch 4, and Galaxy Watch 5. The app must be paired with a Samsung Galaxy S9 or higher. This will give users control over ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, metering, and white balance for precise exposure settings.
While Samsung’s default camera app has a RAW format output toggle, it lacks modern mobile camera features like dedicated portrait, night shooting, or video mode. Currently, the Expert RAW app is only available on Galaxy smartphones and will likely be added to Galaxy Watches soon.
There’s a chance that the Camera Controller app for smartwatches won’t work with Expert Raw on mobile phones. The default camera app on Samsung phones isn’t compatible with the Camera Controller app for smartwatches. Samsung’s Moderator said they’ll “review interlocking related functions in the future,” but there’s no guarantee that the Camera Controller app will ever work with Expert RAW.
Samsung might use the same method they used for the Stock Camera app on the Galaxy Watch. This will make the camera and Expert RAW functions work together in the future. The Expert RAW shortcut is in the camera app, but it’s still a separate app. To use this feature, users must download the Camera Controller app on their Galaxy Watch.
