Everyone uses Bing Chat on Microsoft Edge, which relies on the ChatGPT model to answer users’ questions. However, Bing Chat is only available to some after months, unlike Google’s Bar, which is available on any browser, including Microsoft Edge. Vivaldi incorporates the web browser’s name, operating system, and other tracker blockers.

For this, Vivaldi has done some workarounds that spoof Bing Chat to be Microsoft Edge, allowing users to use Bing Chat. Currently, Bing Chat is only available in Microsoft Edge; however, Microsoft is working on adding third-party browser support for Bing Chat in the coming months.

Vivaldi pretends to be Microsoft Edge when visiting Bing to access Bing Chat.

To use Bing Chat on Vivaldi, you must upgrade to Vivaldi 6.1. Both the mobile and desktop versions of the Vivaldi Browser allow users to access Bing Chat. Vivaldi already offers ChatGPT access from its browser. This isn’t the first time Vivaldi has pretended to be another browser; Vivaldi began masquerading as Google Chrome in 2019 for better site compatibility. Not only this, Vivaldi recently released the Workspace feature for everyone, adding the ability to copy and share links from tabs and tab stacks on the desktop.

The browser changes its User String, which tells websites which browser and operating system is being accessed from. That’s what Vivaldi used to pretend like you were using Bing on Edge, but in reality, you are on Vivaldi. This is similar to how some extensions allow users to access Bing Chat in any web browser. This browser is available on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, tablets, and Chromebooks. It allows users to take advantage of Bing Chat without downloading Microsoft Edge.

Vivaldi spoofs Edge to access Bing Chat in its web browser.

It masquerades as Google Chrome or Edge to make websites accessible. In addition, by pretending to be Chrome, GPU users use less memory and resources, which improves battery life, reduces crashes, and improves system stability. With Bing Chat, users can ask the chatbot questions directly related to the webpage they are currently on. They can also request that it perform tasks related to the page.

Client Hints replaces the legacy User-Agent standard; however, websites have blocked the browser because of its User-Agent String 2023. This approach is to combat user-agent discrimination, which is becoming increasingly significant as the dogfight to lure users to AI becomes increasingly desperate. However, Vivaldi is already working on an iOS version that will soon be released for preview and is generally available.

There could be several reasons why Microsoft has yet to release Bing Chat for everyone. Microsoft uses Chromium, and the same holds true for Vivaldi, but that doesn’t mean all websites are optimized for those browsers. The user-agent string ensures compatibility; some websites only work with Google Chrome, and drivers are also optimized for specific browsers.
