Meta has recently pushed an update to its WhatsApp application, allowing users to use the same WhatsApp account on two different smartphones. This means you can use your WhatsApp account natively in the WhatsApp app instead of using it on a web browser, providing a better experience.

WhatsApp is already one of the most popular and best messaging applications, packed with many features and functionality. Today, in this article, we will share how you can use the same WhatsApp account on two Android phones on your secondary devices.

WhatsApp Companion Mode

This has been one of the most requested features for years, as other similar messaging platforms allow for use on different devices. Recently, WhatsApp announced WhatsApp companion mode, now available for everyone. Your chats, contacts, and groups will be synced across linked devices, and you can add up to four devices, which will be independent.

Now, you can use the same WhatsApp account on two different smartphones. Since this mode is available to everyone on every platform, you can use WhatsApp on Android, iOS, iPad, macOS, and Windows. Recently, the company also allowed the use of WhatsApp offline, as it downloads the content and allows you to use it without needing your primary smartphone to stay online.

You do not have to worry about anything being different on your device. The WhatsApp instance will run individually and remain encrypted, ensuring you have secure chats, media, and calls. Apart from WhatsApp, this feature also works with WhatsApp businesses. Companion features work similarly to linked devices, and you can use WhatsApp Companion mode to use a single account for up to five devices.

Run the same WhatsApp account on two Android smartphones.

Before proceeding, ensure that you have updated WhatsApp to the latest version on both devices you will use for the WhatsApp account.

  • Open WhatsApp on the other device you want to add as a companion.
  • It will ask you to choose your preferred language, then tap the Agree and Continue buttons.
  • Next, click on the triple-horizontal menu in the upper-right corner, then click “Link an Existing Account,” which will show a QR code.
    • On an iOS device, you need to open settings and navigate to Linked Device to link the device.
  • After that, open the WhatsApp account on your primary device and click on the triple-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  • Click on “Link a Device,” and then scan the QR code on your device to link your secondary smartphone.
  • That is it! Your secondary smartphone will download the data, and now you can start using WhatsApp on different smartphones.

This is how you can start using the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices. This feature debuts in companion mode and works independently. Also, users do not need to stay active on the WhatsApp account on their primary device.

You should ensure that you cannot leave or log out of your WhatsApp account from your primary devices. Also, please do not leave it unattended for long, as it will log out from all companion devices. You cannot use the payment method to pay someone with WhatsApp Pay, but all other features remain functional.

If you want to log out of WhatsApp on a secondary device, all you have to do is open WhatsApp and click on the triple-dot menu in the upper-right corner. Open Settings, go to Account and tap on the Logout button. This will log you out of WhatsApp on secondary devices.
