Almost all apps have come with Dark Mode support for the past few years. It is quite useful because it saves battery if you have an OLED display panel device. However, some apps still don’t have Dark Mode support, like Snapchat. It’s not that Snapchat can’t offer Dark Mode; Snapchat has had it exclusively for Android for some time. But now, with recent reports, Snapchat is working on Dark Mode for Android.

There are some reasons why it takes more work to offer Dark Mode. Dark Mode requires changing the app’s colors, but developers need to think carefully as the app’s content should be readable and accessible in dark environments. Although Android offers the Force Dark mode, which changes the color of the apps, sometimes forcing Dark Mode on an app has issues where the content becomes difficult to read. Snapchat is now working on native Dark Mode support for Android, but according to Alessandro Paluzzi (h/t; 9to5Google), it will likely be first available to Snapchat+ subscribers.

Snapchat+ users will receive Dark Mode on Android.

This is one of the most awaited features Android users request for Snapchat. Snap Inc has been working on Dark Mode for over a year since it first surfaced in 2021. This feature is likely to come shortly, as a growing number of Android users have been using Snapchat, especially Gen-Z, who praise Snapchat. It also helps reduce eye strain while using the app at night in Dark Mode, and it saves battery life with OLED displays.

In the app appearance settings, users can choose their preference as Always Light, Always Dark, or Match System. However, it’s unclear when Snapchat will officially release Dark Mode for Android or if this feature will remain exclusive to Snapchat+ users on Android. After the official launch, Snapchat will first roll out the Dark Mode functionality to the Experimental feature (Beta), which remains exclusive to Snapchat+. This feature will remain for Snapchat+ members for the first couple of months before arriving for general Snapchat users.

It’s unknown when Snap will add the Dark Mode toggle to Android in the stable version of Snapchat or if this feature might not be a welcome feature for free. Snapchat may make this exclusive feature for Snapchat+ users on Android, but there aren’t such requirements for iOS. Snapchat+, a photo-sharing platform in India, costs Rs 49 per month (0.60 USD), while Snap introduced the $4 Subscription in the US, UK, and Canada, among other key markets, in late June last year.

Snapchat+ also offers AI Chatbot, and priority story replies, but Dark Mode functionality isn’t a thing that companies should charge for. As most Android apps come with almost every Android app, Dark Mode on Android was first introduced in 2019.
