The User Interface (UI) plays a significant role in a smartphone’s battery life. This is because smartphone companies design their products to appeal to the visually impaired. While this is understandable, it should not come at the expense of battery performance. One such example is Samsung’s latest UI, One UI 5. Despite Samsung’s promises to create an interface that balances features with battery optimisation, many users find their battery life could be performing better than it is. That’s why we will be discussing some tips to improve battery life on One UI 5.

How to optimise One UI 5 for maximum performance and battery life

One UI 5 offers exciting features that will surprise you, such as easy identification of call backgrounds, a much more comprehensive selection of wallpapers, and more colour palette options. Samsung has undoubtedly done a great job of thinking about its customers and developing an innovative UI and set of features. However, many Samsung users find it difficult to fully utilise their phones, and some have reported a slight battery drain issue after upgrading to One UI 5. Samsung has acknowledged this and is working to identify the cause of the problem. They have also provided some tips on how to fix it. In this guide, we will discuss all of these tips.

Disable rarely used apps.

According to Samsung Support, one of the most effective ways to improve battery life is to turn off apps you rarely access. These apps can still consume battery power even if they are not being used. Go to Settings > Application Management > Select rarely used apps > Tap on disable to disable apps.

Turn on power-saving mode.

Samsung offers a power-saving mode that can be used when the battery is low. This mode changes the default settings of your phone to minimise battery usage. It will automatically turn off unnecessary features such as “Always on Display” and adjust the brightness level. To enable this mode, go to Settings > Battery & Device Care > Battery > Enable Power Saving Mode.

Set the screen timeout.

Another significant factor in preserving battery life is the screen timeout setting. Make sure your phone’s screen timeout is set at an appropriate level. You can change the screen timeout if necessary by navigating to Settings > Display > Screen Timeout.

Ensure that apps do not fall asleep.

Samsung has a “Sleep” setting that puts the application into a dormant state. This can make the device feel lighter, but background-running apps can still consume battery power. Please go to Settings > Battery & Device Care > Battery > Background Usage Limits > Never Sleep Apps to resolve this issue. Tap + to stop apps from sleeping. In this step, you’ll add the apps you don’t want to put to sleep.

Use Samsung’s built-in battery optimisation feature.

Samsung has an in-built feature that can help optimise your battery life. To use it, open the Settings app on your phone, scroll down to Battery & Device Care, and tap on the Optimize button. Your phone will analyse potential battery strains and, if any are found, will automatically resolve or suggest solutions for them.

As a reminder, One UI 5 is an add-on that Samsung integrates with its phones running Android 13.

However, some phones may experience battery drain during the first few hours of use. But by using the above tips and Samsung’s built-in optimisation feature, you can fix it. If you have questions, please ask them in the comments below.
