How can you import saved passwords from your previous browser?

There are numerous ways to import saved passwords into Google Chrome, but we will tell you the most convenient way. As these methods are also experienced by us, mainly, there are three ways to do the above operation.

We will tell you about each method, one by one. NOTE: Apple Safari does not allow you to export your saved browser to anyone else because of iCloud keychain encryption.

Method: I (import from CSV)

This method applies to all Chrome-based browsers. But you should note that importing saved passwords to Chrome will probably not work because Google does not allow you to import saved passwords. To import a saved password to Chrome, you have to enable the “Chrome flag.”.

  1. First, open chrome://flags on Chrome search for “password import” and enable it.
  2. Then, restart the Chrome browser.
  3. Now, open chrome://settings/passwords click on the 3-dot menu, and then click on “Import.”.
  4. After that, select the CSV file that has all your saved passwords.
  5. Now, click on Open.
  6. Hence, all saved passwords will be imported into Google Chrome.

Method II (import from Mozilla Firefox)

Mozilla Firefox has close integration with Google Chrome, because of which you can easily export saved passwords from Firefox to Chrome. But it works if both browsers are installed on the same computer. If you want to import passwords saved on Firefox on one computer to Chrome installed on another computer, you will have to use a third-party application that creates the CSV file with one click.

Here are the steps to be followed:

If both browsers are installed on the same PC

  1. Open Chrome’s menu and then click on Bookmarks, then Import Bookmarks and Settings.
  2. After that, choose “Mozilla Firefox” from the drop-down menu, then click on “Import.”
  3. Hence, your saved password will be imported.

If both browsers are installed on a different PC

  1. First, download the FF password export through the given link.
  2. (It is free of charge and available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.)
  3. Then, download the portable file for conversion to a CSV file.
  4. Now, launch the application, and it will automatically detect the Firefox user profile directory.
  5. Then, click on “Export password” and save it as a CSV file.

NOTE: After these four steps, all the processes are the same as Method I.

Method III (import from Microsoft Edge and Opera)

As both Microsoft Edge and Opera are based on Chromium, integration with Chrome is quite good, and the steps are nearly identical.

  1. Open: edge://settings/passwords (on edge)
  2. Opera://settings/passwords(on opera)
  3. Then, click on the three-dot button and choose “Export.”.
  4. And save the CSV file.

NOTE: After these three steps, all the processes are the same as in Method I.
