Google announced its centralized health and fitness app, the Health Connect app, with ten health and fitness apps available to support this, including Oura, Peloton, and MyFitness Pal. To make this more secure and privacy-preserving, sync health data from the eligible platform without any new integration.

The company says Health Connect can sync data across 40+ supported categories. Which includes exercise, female cycle tracking, nutrition, body measurements, activities, sleep tracking, and much more. The app needs to simplify the process of connecting apps. However, it gives more privacy controls by allowing users to look at which apps have access to data quickly.

The app is available in beta on the Google Play Store and has been developed in collaboration with Google and Samsung. However, Google hasn’t shared the public release timeline yet. Additionally, it supports multiple app integrations, including popular apps like Samsung Health, Fit, Google Fit, Oura, MyFitnessPal, WeightWatchers, Flo, Lifesum, Signos, Tonal, Outdooractive, and Proov Insight.

HEALTH CONNECT

Google first announced the Health Connect Hub at Google I/O this year, where they assured us the app will be a central hub for all fitness data from wearables (such as smartwatches). The app is available for WearOS 3 or above, including devices such as the Galaxy Watch 4, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, the Galaxy Watch 5, and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

You can open Google Health Connect via Quick Settings or through the app. All the apps that have access to your data in the selected categories can be found by clicking on a particular health service or app.

This app is helpful for developers and users and can be impactful with a central database for privacy controls. As for developers, Google reduces data fragmentation and improves tracking accuracy.
