Unlike traditional VMs, Windows Sandbox doesn’t need you to deploy an ISO file or anything. Instead, it deploys automatically with a clean copy of the operating system that is isolated from the rest of your computer, keeping everything safe within it.
What you need to run the Windows Sandbox It’s pretty easy to set up, but first, there are several things you need to know. Apart from that, your PC requires virtualisation support, and this feature can be enabled via BIOS. Here are the steps to do so:
- Open the Windows Terminal as an administrator.
- Enter “systeminfo.exe” in the Window Terminal and hit Enter.
- In the following text, check the Hyper-V requirements section.
- If you see “Virtualization is enabled,” you need to enable Hyper-V in the BIOS settings. To do this, go to the Start menu and hold Shift on your keyboard while choosing Restart. When the computer restarts, select Troubleshooting, click Advanced Options, and click on the UEFI Firmware Settings. Look for virtualization, usually found under advanced settings in the BIOS, and then activate and save the changes.

- Open the Start menu and search for “optionalfeature.exe.”
Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName "Containers-DisposableClientVM" -All -Online- Find Windows Sandbox and select it, then click OK to save the changes.
- Restart your computer, and Windows Sandbox should appear in the Start menu.
