Microsoft released the new update to the Windows Insider Programme, and the Company is making available the update Build 25309 to the Windows 11 Beta Channel. These features and improvements will likely debut in the next feature drop of Windows 11.

Microsoft released its latest update to the Windows Insider Program for the Developer Channel. This update brings some minor stability and new functionality, including an enhanced Volume Mixer in Quick Settings. There is also an update to Touch Keyboard Settings alongside features for File Explorer, Graphics, and Input. Additionally, there are some polish improvements to Voice Access. Not to mention, there are some improvements to Windows with a good number of fixes and optimizations.

What’s New in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25309

New Volume Mixer in Quick Settings

This has been in testing for quite some time. It was accessible with Vivetool in the previous build but is now available in the Developer Preview. It gives users an alternative to Ear Trumpet but is still way better. For those who don’t want to install another or third-party Volume Mixer, it’s a great addition to Windows 11.

Previously, users had to go through Windows Settings to tweak the volume for individual apps. Now it’s more accessible with the updated Windows 11 Dev and natively gives access to audio per-app within Quick Settings with an additional option to swap devices on the fly. There is a new shortcut: Windows + Ctrl + V to open the Volume Mixer faster.

There is also an option for enabling Windows Sonic with quick access to a list including Spatial Sound technology. You can also visit the Microsoft Store to find additional Spatial technology and options including Dolby and DTS. This is currently available for limited users and will be expanding quite imminently with gradual rollout in the future.

New Updated Touch Keyboard Settings

Microsoft is focusing on updating their Windows Settings to make it more intuitive to use. In the past, the company has made several changes with the Account. With this update, there is an improved Touch Keyboard Settings with some fixes. This was originally debuted with Build 25188 and was later disabled with Build 25217.

To access these settings, users can navigate to Windows Settings and then head over to Time & Language and then go to Typing. There you will find a Touch Keyboard with a new dropdown menu having three different options to control whether tapping an edit control should launch the new touch keyboard. The options include Never, When no keyboard attached, and Always. This is also in limited preview for Windows 11 Insider Preview.

class="wp-block-heading">Auto Color Management Expansion

Microsoft made this change back in October. It used hardware acceleration for system-level color management which works on selected qualifying and specially provisioned SDR displays. Windows Insiders will now be able to enable ACM for their SDR displays and it will work across all Windows apps.

With this, colors on the display will now be more accurate, consistent and color-managed. Users can navigate to enable ACM on their display from Windows Settings and head over to Display then go to Advanced Display and from there toggle to enable Automatically manage colors for apps.

There are some requirements for this to work. You need to have: • WDDM driver version 3.0 or greater

  • Supported GPU:
    • AMD:
      • AMD RX 400 Series or later
      • AMD Ryzen processors with Radeon Graphics
    • Intel:
      • Integrated: Intel 12th Gen (Alder Lake) or later
      • Discrete: Intel DG1 or later
    • NVIDIA:
    • NVIDIA GTX 10xx or later (Pascal+)

However, there is no hardware requirement for your display or connection to enable ACM. Even displays having an 8-bit sRGB can use this feature but it’s recommended to have an ACM device with a wider-sRGB gamut and 10-bit per channel or higher. This is also for limited Windows Insider Dev and will gradually roll out with future updates.

Updated Voice Access

The Voice Access in-app command help page has been redesigned to make it simpler and easier to find commands. To better understand the app, there is a description with an example so users can understand the command and its use case scenario better. To view these commands you can head over to Help and from there check View all commands by saying “What can I use?”
