Microsoft File Explorer

The Windows 11 Dev update comes with an all-new File Explorer with an addition to Gallery in File Explorer. Currently, this is only available in the Dev Version of Windows 11. This update will make it easier for users to have access to their photo collection. It works quite similarly to the Photos app used to be. However, it is primarily optimized to show your most recent photos, and it also has an added OneDrive Recent image. Users still have the option to select which folder image will appear here in the Gallery in File Explorer. Also, users can use different sub-folders of existing sources to filter a subset of contents like Desktop Background, SD Card/Camera Imports.

It also allows users to directly pick the image from their File Explorer so they can add, select, or insert images from Gallery in File Explorer to their Social Media, Email attachments, or PowerPoint. You will notice a Pizza icon on the top of the File Manager, which indicates that you are using the Insider preview of the Windows App SDK version of File Explorer as the company is switching from WinUI 2 to WinUI3 design, but the functionality remains the same.

This feature is currently rolling out to a handful of users, which means it’s not available to every insider in the Dev Channels. The company will roll it out to other users after successful testing and fixing the bugs they received from the feedback. It is advised to send useful feedback to Microsoft so they can fix it.
