Valorant is one of the most popular FPS games and many players are confused about its ranking system. In this article, we will explain how Valorant ranks work in the easiest way possible.

What is Valorant Rank?

Riot Games’ Valorant uses a Matchmaking Rating System, better known as MMR. Like all similar FPS games, it has slightly different rankings and ratings. These reflect your skills and abilities which you need to earn. Riot used to call these “Proven Skills” where they give players the highest official rank.

You can also see this as a level, but here it’s based on skills and the number of games you’ve played. To maintain a fair ranking of players during matchmaking, every player is assigned a rank that adjusts over time by putting similarly ranked players in the game. This ranking system is used across major multiplayer games including games like Call of Duty.

This time around there are nine tiers in the Valorant ranking system, starting with Iron and ending with Radiant. All the tiers have their sub-rankings where Rank one is the lowest and Rank three is the highest. In total, you can count it as 25 Valorant ranks excluding Unranked.

Rank distribution has been adjusted accordingly with rank saturation at ~60% in Iron, Bronze, and Silver. As follows: Iron (10.6%), Bronze (23.5%), Silver (25%), Gold (17.9%), Platinum (12.5%), Diamond (7.2%), Ascendant (2.5%), Immortal (0.5%) and Radiant (0.3%).

Talking about the highest rank Radiant is claimed by 500 players in each region which is approximately the top 1% per region.

How to Rank Up

If you’re new to Valorant, then you first need to play several games to reach Level 20 after which you’ll unlock Competitive mode. This is because new players need to learn the basics of the game which includes maps, agents, and gameplay mechanics.

To maintain Valorant rank placement and restrictions, you first need to play at least 20 games to unlock ranked matches. If you even play a game for at least 3 hours daily then you can reach Level 20 within a week. However, to get access to play ranked you need to have 95000 AP (Account Points) from 5000AP.

How Does Valorant Rank Work?

It works similarly to other competitive games. Once you unlock your rank by reaching Level 20 for which you just need to play 5 placement matches to begin your ranked gameplay. Riot Games always keeps making improvements and changes with updates which makes matchmaking better with better accuracy and adjustments to players’ Ranked Rating Curve to be less volatile.

Ranking keeps adjusting according to whether a player wins or loses a match as a team. So it’s based on your performance a bit. However, when you reach higher rankings then it changes. After Immortal and Radiant rankings, Riot only takes your wins and losses into account individually and completely. Do note that if you’ve been inactive for 14 days then your rank will be hidden and it will show again after playing a game.

Your rank will not get affected within two weeks but the new act surely will affect your ranking for which you’ll need to play five games to get a rank. MMR from the previous rank will also be taken into account for the ranking. In simple terms, when a new act starts you’ll be taken slightly below the rank where you were with the previous act.

An Act in simple terms is like a season and Episodes are season episodes. Each Act lasts for two months and three Acts contribute to an Episode that lasts up to six months.

This is the easiest way to keep an eye on your progress. So with each Act, you can re-progression work on your game. You might have already seen the Act Rank Badge Triangle. Every game you play will fill a new triangle through which with each of your progress the triangle will get filled to get higher-ranked matches. Rank Reset

With every new Valorant Episode which comes in six months, your rank will get lowered by 3-4 ranks. So it allows players to re-prove themselves.

How to Track your Rank in Valorant?

You can track your progress in match history or you can check the leaderboard and progress bars. The Valorant ranking on the progress bar will give you an idea about the next rank which will be adjusted according to your wins or losses. There is Valorant RR which you can earn by playing matches. At lower ranks, players can easily progress.

When you play a game, for winning you’ll receive 10 to 50 rank points and for a draw, you’ll have 20 rank points. New players have to start with Rank 10 and once they get higher ranked their rank rating will be a minimum of 80 after a demotion.

Valorant Rank with Premade Team?

You can play matches with a group of 5 players for which there are some adjustments to make good matchmaking. For this, you’re going to be matched against another five-stack with a similar average MMR.

Rank Decay

This game doesn’t have a decay system. Instead, if you don’t play games for more than 14 days then your rank will disappear from your profile. But by playing a game after that then you’ll have your rank on your profile again.
