In this article, we will discuss the iPhone 14 Pro. Reviewing the phone has taken a sufficient amount of time since its launch and the updates. It is a good smartphone, but not an upgrade over the iPhone 13 Pro. Other reviews and articles claim it is a downgrade in many ways. So, without further delay, let’s discuss the iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro are both great smartphones.

However, the upgrade from the 13 Pro to the 14 Pro is insignificant.

The iPhone 14 Pro is a good-looking device with a fantastic build, just like the iPhone 13 Pro. It is difficult to tell them apart if you replace the notch with the dynamic island, even if you use your iPhone in public. It is impossible to know whether a person uses the 13 Pro or the 14 Pro.

Let’s discuss what sets the iPhone 14 Pro apart from the 13 Pro.

One notable difference is the pill-shaped notch on the top, still called a notch, but Apple has named it the dynamic island. Most people using the iPhone 14 probably don’t care about it and have only interacted with it a few times in the last four months. They are likely to forget about it.

During the initial days, there was a brief period where you could see live activities on some devices, but it stopped working. One great feature of the iPhone 14 Pro was the new lock screen, which felt better than the notch. However, there is no customization option to disable the dynamic island.

If you think the iPhone 14 Pro would have an immersive experience and be different and plan to buy it for the dynamic island, it may not be worth the money. Another issue is the always-on display, and it is unclear why Apple couldn’t enable this feature on the iPhone 13 Pro. While the display panel on the 14 Pro can go down to a low refresh rate of 1Hz, many Android smartphones can easily manage better battery life than the iPhone 13 Pro, which has a constant high refresh rate on the always-on-display.

The primary requirement for enabling always-on-display is an AMOLED display, which the iPhone 13 Pro already has. Therefore, the iPhone 13 Pro should have been able to manage better battery life with the always-on-display display, especially with a more efficient processor and battery. Some reports have even suggested that the iPhone 13 Pro has better battery life with the always-on display than the iPhone 14 Pro.

Apple eventually brought the always-on-display to the iPhone 14 Pro, but it did not work as expected. It was very power-hungry and distracting at the same time. With the rollout of the iOS 16.2 update, Apple made the always-on-display look more like the Android version.

The Apple A16 Bionic chip is suitable for playing games, as Apple is generally excellent at designing GPUs and CPUs. However, the jump from the A15 to the A16 is not significant, and the A16 is an inefficient chip. Apple is far ahead of its competitors, so they are far from catching up, but in terms of growth, this is a problem.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 battery life was great because of the A15 chip, but the A16 could be more efficient. Many people who bought the iPhone 14 Pro may think the poor battery life is due to the iOS 16 update and the always-on-display, but the chip itself could be more.

Power users of the iPhone 13 Pro generally get around 9–10 hours of screen time for one day, while iPhone 14 Pro users get around 7-8 hours. While this has a good battery life, it is not as good as the iPhone 13 Pro. It is better than any Android smartphone but not as good as the 13 Pro.

The camera on the iPhone 14 Pro includes a 48MP sensor, but people have yet to encounter problems with the close focus distance. It is irritating when the auto-switch function cannot be disabled, and if you capture with a different sensor, you lose the bokeh effect.

Regarding video, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro are great. Unless you want to use the cinematic mode in 4K or shoot 48MP RAW pictures, there is no reason to upgrade from the 13 Pro. The charging and transfer speeds are not improved either, as the iPhone 14 Pro uses the same lightning port. The only practical upgrade is peak brightness, so there is no real reason to get the iPhone 14 Pro over the 13 Pro.

The iPhone 14 Pro is currently the best iOS device from Apple. If you come from an older generation, upgrading to the 14 Pro makes sense. However, if you want to save money, you can opt for the iPhone 13 or try to find it cheaper from another source. You can then use the money to buy other Apple products, such as AirPods or an Apple Watch, or save it for future use.

If you are coming from an iPhone 10 or 11, the iPhone 14 Pro is a fantastic upgrade. However, if you have a different opinion, please share it in the comment section below. Stay tuned for more updates in the future.
