If your computer is running Windows 11, then you can directly upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 because the system requirements haven’t changed. The company will make 24H2 available through Windows Update settings and provide other methods.

However, it does require higher processor requirements to run Windows 11 24H2. Not to mention, Windows 11 24H2 can still be sideloaded on unsupported hardware.

Back up your data.

Before we begin, it’s important that you take a backup of your data so you can restore it in case of failure, as well as for quick setup. Microsoft has made Efficient Data Protection with Windows 11 23H2, which offers the ability to back up important files, settings, and applications.

Pre-Requirements

For this, you need to sign in with a Microsoft account associated with Windows 11 and Microsoft 365. OneDrive, and Xbox.

Open Windows Settings (Windows + I).
Then click on Accounts, and click on Sign-in with Microsoft Accounts, which appears under Account Settings.
Now launch Windows Backup from Windows Start.
After that, choose the folder that you want to backup, and then toggle to enable the backup accordingly.
Now navigate to Windows Backup and check the status of the backup of apps, settings, and credentials.

There are multiple ways, but we recommend USB flash drives, either via the Media Creation tool or via a third-party tool like Rufus.

Pre-Requirements

Your PC should be configured to boot from a USB flash drive.
Ensure you have stable storage and 8GB of free space on your USB drive.

Download Windows 11 24H2 ISO

You can download Windows 11 24H2 from Microsoft’s official website or

Visit the Windows Insider Programme web page.
Sign in using your Microsoft account.
Then choose Windows Edition, then click confirm, and then again click confirm if you want to download.
After that, click on the 64-bit download button and save the ISO file.

How to Make Windows 11 Bootable USB

We will be sharing two primary methods through which you can make a Windows 11 bootable USB drive for a clean Windows 11 24H2 installation.

Bootable Windows 11 24H2 Using the Media Creation Tool

First, we will be sharing how to make a bootable USB using an official Microsoft tool when it is available in stable.

Download Microsoft’s Windows 11 Creation tool.
Launch the Windows 11 installation media, then check the checkbox for Accept Terms and Conditions.
Now, select the language and edition, or use the existing settings of Windows 11.
Then, choose the USB flash drive, then click Next.
Then start with selecting the USB drive, and then the system will download and make your USB flash drive bootable.

Bootable Windows 11 24H2 using the Rufus Tool

We will be creating USB bootable media using Rufus; here’s how.

Download and install Rufus.
Launch Rufus, then click on the Select button on Boot Selection to choose the Windows 11 24H2 ISO file.
Next, click on the image option to choose Standard Windows 11 Installation.
Now, click on Start.
1. It then opens a Windows User Experience Pop-up. If your PC doesn’t have TPM, Secure Boot, or more than 4GB of RAM, check the first checkbox.
2. If you don’t want to continue with your Microsoft account, then check the checkbox for “Remove Requirements for an Online Microsoft Account.”

How to do a clean Windows 11 24H2 installation from USB

After making a bootable USB drive, we can now perform a clean installation with the following instructions mentioned below: With Windows 11, there is a new installation page, so here are the instructions to follow.

Power on your PC, then press the boot key.
Choose your Windows 11 24H2 USB, and then it will boot into the installation window.
Then choose the language, time, and currency format.
Click on Next, and then it will ask for a keyboard and input method.
Then click Next, choose Install Windows 11, and check the checkbox for “I agree everything will be deleted, including files, apps, and settings.”
Now, click on Next, then click on “I agree with everything” and choose “I don’t have a product key” on the Product Key page.
On the Select Image page, choose the edition of Windows you want to install.
Click on Next, accept, and then choose the disc on which you want to install Windows.

After selecting the risk, click on the Delete button, and then select Drive 0 Unallocated Space.
Click on Next, and then on the Install button. Once the installation is finished, it takes you to the Out-of-the-Box Experience (OOBE) screen.
From the OOBE screen, you have to select the region, and keyboard layout, give your device a name, and set it up either for personal, work, or school based on your preference.
Now login with a Microsoft account and create a PIN for your PC. After that, it asks for preference settings to disable everything and then click on Accept.
Restore the backup. If you have created the backup, then click on Restore from this PC, or if you want to make a new one, then click on More Options, then choose Setup a New PC.
1. If you have already set up the backup, then restore it using your Microsoft account.
Now skip the Customise your Experience part, then skip Linking your Phone and click on Only Save Files to This PC for OneDrive Backup.
After this, click on the Next and Not Now buttons for the browser’s data sharing with Microsoft.
Skip the PC Game Pass Prooption, and No Thanks for Microsoft 365 Setup.
