The game Griftlands is full of systems. Besides two decks to tinker with across three characters, you’ll also have to manage relationships and permanent upgrades in the roguelike deck-builder. Mettle is a resource that gives you passive effects that can be earned and spent to gain permanent upgrades. You can also enhance your character by unlocking new Flourishes.

The more cards you play, the more damage you deal, and the more enemies you defeat, the more points go into your Flourish bar. Activating Flourish will enable you to deal some serious damage once you earn 200 points.

You can unlock new options using Prestige Points at the Mettle Vendor during the night if you go there. You can only unlock these points by beating the bosses at each Prestige level. For example, if you defeat an early mini-boss with prestige 1, you must upgrade to prestige 2 in order to get points from them again. It goes without saying that you must actually beat the game with your current Prestige level in order to go up a Prestige.
You can unlock eight different flourishes for each character through battles and negotiations. As well as upgrading each of those once you accumulate more prestige points. As a result of these new flourishes, you have access to new abilities that drastically affect the gameplay. You can, for instance, purchase a battle flourish that deals 16 Bleed damage to all your enemies. If you use that against a boss, you can quickly wipe out a huge amount of health.
When you unlock new flourishes, you do not need to worry about changing your flourishes between runs. Whenever you activate your Flourish, you have access to all of them. In other words, you don’t have to decide which one to use until you’re in the thick of things. It will come in handy if you are in the middle of a fight.
