Google rolled out their first developer preview of Android 14, Where the previous version Android Root store used to get updates with OTA Updates. Where a lot of Major OEMs like POCO only used to offer 2yrs of Software updates, but it still isn’t a huge improvement.

And to solve this issue, Google will now roll out the update to ensure the Android system’s root certificate store will be updated with the latest version of Google Play. If you don’t know, then it’s a software configuration that helps your device to get you to the right point with the right servers hosting the website you want to visit so that you don’t get to the wrong point, which is owned by someone else with bad intentions.

Since there are a lot of websites on the internet and apps that don’t maintain a list of every site’s security certification that they trust, and on top, there are several layers deep layers of validation until you reach a root CA that issues the security certificate which used to sign the certificate that eventually signed the certificated issued to the site you used to visit.

As there are a lot of self-signed or signed other entities, and an app only establishes a secure connection with a server on the internet (HTTPS), they trust the server’s (TLS) security certificate. These certificates do have an expiration time, and in some cases, if the CA has an issue, it is suggested that it be malicious or compromised or a new root certificate crops up that needs to be updated.

With Android 14, Google might start its Android’s Root store via Google Play. There are new root certifications that will be added, and some old ones will be removed from Android 14.
