Google has released an update to Android Beta 2 that fixes several annoying bugs. This update is available for eligible Pixel smartphones, including Pixel 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, and 7 Pro series devices. Users will receive the update via Over-the-air in Android Beta Program.

Android 14 Beta 2.1 fixes issues that prevent users from completing device setup after choosing a device and Android 14 Beta Build outside of the Beta Program. To install Beta 2.1, follow these instructions:

  • Open Device settings and go to System.
  • Tap System update and then Check for Update.
  • If the update is available for your device, tap Download and Install.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  • That’s it!

Google is rolling out the update program for Google Pixel phones, and it is frequently updated with new features and bug fixes. These bug fixes include issues with device setup, battery percentage display, audio disruptions, and system stability. It also brings multiple bug fixes reportedly for Pixel owners running the previous beta version enrolled in the Android Beta Program.

What’s New in Android 14 Beta 2.1

  • Battery Percentage: Previous builds caused the battery percentage to display as 0% regardless of the actual charge level of the device.
  • Google Photos, Contacts, and Messages: This update stabilizes these apps which were causing instability and freezing or crashing.
  • Speakers: Audio distortion with the device’s speaker, reportedly experienced by some Pixel users, is being fixed with Beta 2.1.
  • Always On Display: It automatically turned on even without switching the toggle, but now it has been optimized to work according to the user’s preference, especially when using Android Auto or the Google TV app’s picture-in-picture mode.
  • Fixes:
    • Fixed the picture-in-picture mode in the Google TV app which made the picture-in-picture window appear while using gesture navigation.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the Google Contacts app to crash when managing account settings.
    • Fixed an issue where the icon for the Google Messages app did not display for notifications when the always-on-display mode was enabled.

This build comes with an Android Security Patch level of May 2023. It has a build number UPB2.230407.019 and Google Play Services version 23.15.16. The new features that could be included in One UI 6.0 are a new design language, privacy features, productivity features, and new gaming features.

Talking about Samsung’s part, One UI 6.0 Beta based on Android 14 for the Galaxy S23 and other high-end smartphones is expected to be released in a few weeks. The Beta program will allow users to try out new features. During the One UI 6.0 Beta, users will have early access to new features and can give feedback to Samsung.

Google has already tested out several new features, and users can anticipate these new features on their Samsung device later this year when the One UI 6.0 update is officially released to Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
