Windows Insiders in the Dev Preview ring have received another Windows 11 build from Microsoft. Improved UI and new Microsoft Teams integration were part of the new release. Nonetheless, it also had a number of known issues, one of which was the broken Windows Hello.
There is a simple fix for the āSomething went wrongā error when trying to use Windows Hello in Windows 11. Here are steps to follow to fix the issue if you are experiencing it:
- Click on the Windows button or Windows Search
- Click on the āopenā button and type āDevice Managerā. Right-click on the Windows button and select Device Manager.
- Double-click āBiometric devicesā once Device Manager has opened.
- Select āUninstall deviceā from the context menu of the right-clicked āWindows Hello Face Software Deviceā
- Installing the latest drivers should be done by rebooting the computer and letting Windows do the rest.
After the installation is complete, Windows Hello should be ready to use. Microsoft should fix this issue in a future build. The issue is not critical, but it can certainly be annoying for users who rely on Windows Hello to sign in.
